I don’t really need or want to go full frame if someone had a great Super35 lineup and a higher end cinema camera coupled with a great mirrorless camera.

That’s going to be the most difficult part, reverse engineering the communication for the new serial bus. Nikon will probably avoid giving out that information. The newer the cameras become, the more difficult it’ll be to reverse engineer these lens communications, just like with tuning for modern cars.

A large part of its growth would come from the capacity expansion. The company is doubling its capacity 53,000 tonnes to 100,000 by FY19 tonne and 150,000 tonnes by the end of FY20. Interestingly, the capex would be largely funded through internal accruals without putting pressure on the balance sheet. You know, I was thinking what would be the ultimate with this new S-Series. With the L-Mount Alliance in place, wouldn’t it have been great if Panasonic pulled off another strategic partnership with, say, Kodak. With Fuji and it’s digitized film simulations, it would’ve been spectacular to have a Kodak film stock in the -in-camera settings. Just dreaming, i guess. Kodak may as well, they’re out of the camera game for the most part.

If true, it also means that we may finally get much better low-light and higher-resolution images from Panasonic. Micro Four Thirds models are great in tons of ways — system size is one of the biggest — but low-light quality has never matched that of full-frame or even APS-C models, mostly because of the smaller sensor size, which has also limited the maximum resolution — it currently tops out at 20 or so megapixels. 

Even if the deep learning AI with DFD improves a lot, wouldn’t it work better with PDAF? How about a hybrid PD and CD deep learning AI, huh? Plus it will only work with Panasonic lenses, right?
