Here’s something I’ve never thought about before; Let’s say both Canon and Nikon come out with a new mount/lens system. If that happens will standard lenses plummet in value? For the last 20 years lenses have held their value much better than cameras but this won’t be the case if they both dump their standard mounts.

In that regard, when Canon does its thing, I think it’s not going to be a separate mirrorless lineup, but a replacement of current models. If the rumor is true that Canon is about to announce vIII replacements for some of their current vII lenses, particularly the essential f2.8 70-200 L IS, in the ES mount, that strongly suggests there won’t be any change in that aspect for another decade.

While Canon missed the boat on a few specs, it’s still a very nice camera for anyone looking to move up from intermediate level DSLR bodies. It’s also pretty clear that Canon (like most flagship companies in their respective tech, e.g. Apple iPhones) almost always hold back some of the specs for refinement and integration on the next model release. I don’t blame Canon for this, it’s business, Sony did it too. Legendary reliability, professional quality images, and great lenses; it’s hard to complain with that from Canon. Give Canon and Nikon both a few years to integrate and improve specs. Anyone expecting the world’s perfect camera with Canon’s very first full frame mirror-less body was sure to be disappointed either way. I do not think this camera was designed for professionals looking to switch from top of the line DSLRs to mirror-less, it was intended for intermediate photographers looking to upgrade from mid-level bodies.

Oh. I didn’t knew that. Uh uh Canon are shooting themselves in the foot… So no R mount for RED for instance? Crazy move.

Besides the four RF-mount lenses mentioned above, other lenses announced include an EF-M 32mm f1.4 set for October. They certainly can, and I would be one of the Canon fan boys to switch. Corporations selling legacy products typically are super protective of their products and accessories. I assume third party lens manufactures are the reason that Nikon wouldn’t want to give out their secret sauce. It’s just like with refrigerators, the most profit comes from selling a dollar charcoal filter for 50 bucks 20 times over the life of the refrigerator.

I think the only problem with going with FF is the likely-hood of the IBIS being compromised for video performance because the sensor is so much bigger and heavier.

Sure, you can use Canon’s cheaper EF lenses with a mount adapter, but why buy this mirrorless, then? Unless Canon thinks that the only people who will be buying the camera are those who’ve already invested heavily in Canon gear — which it just turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
