There’s a neat little multifunction-mappable touchpad by your right thumb, which is a clever touch. It also has a top status LCD, OLED EVF, a hefty grip and an articulated back display; the movie record button is placed more prominently as well. It also has all the typical mirrorless capabilities, including electronic shutter (for silent shooting) and USB charging.
Something that would be a real game changer from Sigma would be if they came out with lenses made specifically for the L mount, taking advantage of the extra space they can work with.
What do you do when you don’t have an existing mount to use on your new camera? Well, you have two choices. You either make your own or you use someone else’s. In this case Panasonic chose the latter. Leica has had a long relationship with Panasonic, so it’s no surprise that they have leveraged Leica’s L mount for use on their new camera. The mount is the same mount that can be found on Leica’s SL cameras. If you aren’t familiar with the Leica SL, don’t worry, it wasn’t a very successful camera. Despite having a full frame 24 MP CMOS with 4000 × 6000 pixels with a pixel pitch of 6 × 6 µm² on an active surface area of 24 × 36 mm, a very good electronic viewfinder and shutter, the SL was a sales disaster. Not only was it very expensive ($5995 USD), but the price of the lenses put many a potential customer off. The SL lenses ranged in price from around $4700 USD all the way up to $6395 USD.
No word on autofocus? I think autofocus (stills AND video) might be the big make-or-break feature for this camera, as that’s where Canon and Sony have been making the most rapid progress. It’s hard for people to take a big step back from dual-pixel autofocus, even with cost-savings, 10bit 4:2:2, 4K 60p, better sensor etc. to make up for it.
If I am getting the M camera it’s not to grow into the R or the EF system. It’s a small compliment to them so I can have a small camera AND small dedicated lenses like the days of the Pen F. It’s all small and does not need to be adaptable to big lenses . Canon will make a R APSC camera like the 80D or 7D some day perhaps but I like the small light weight M system.
My point is, Rich had to get down on the ground to figure it out. Watching him was like warping back in time to a Christmas morning when he was nine years old with a new set of Tinkertoys. Once everything was positioned and working, it was time to glue the individual components together. This I could do, based on my past skill with “fun flowers,” a 1960s toy that taught me how to squeeze liquid plastic carefully into hot metal trays to bake my own useless, psychedelic blossoms.
It’s a minor but why didn’t Panasonic choose a better LCD to put on the top like Canon, Nikon and Fuji did?
Apollo Pipes is a group company of APL Apollo, a well-known brand in steel based pipes. Apollo Pipes is taking initiatives to strengthen its brand as aspires to become a pan India company. Fittings segment accounts for 11% of sales and it intends to take it to 15% by the end of FY20. Besides, it is getting into the UPVC and CPVC products, which attracts higher margins. That apart, currently a part of its capital is deployed in the under construction projects. Once the expansion is over and the projects start to generate revenues the return ratios should further improve.
– 24 megapixels – L-mount – Panasonic designed and manufactured sensor – 4k60p – Dual I.S. (both lens and body) – Dual card slot (one XQD, one SD)
Matthew has won 38 ACS Awards and in 2016 he won the Award for Best Cinematography at the 21st Asian Television Awards.
But don’t worry 10 lenses are scheduled to be released by 2020. I would also suspect that Sigma will probably make their ART series lenses available in L mount at some stage in the future.
