Forgive my ignorance, but can someone explain the benefits that are inherent in a shorter flange distance? Is it just to make the body narrower?

I think it is fair to say that not having in body stabilization is a major disappointment for a new platform starting on a blank sheet of paper.

Seems to me like you don’t necessarily need to use a different mount at all really. Other than looking weird, and a lot of other companies using new mounts, it doesn’t necessarily seem like a necessity to use a new mount to me. The biggest drawback is you’d still have to build lenses around the larger flange distance, but I suppose you could modify that concept and have the lens extend further back beyond its physical mount more. You’d need some weird rear lenscaps to accommodate that kind of design.

Coming out with new cameras using the same auto focus technology that has failed and been criticized so much is a bad move. It’s like they are stubborn trying to prove it will work. It’s why we had to move from the gh5 to the a73. Got tired of the auto focus issues when we needed it too work. Just a bummer!

"You’re also using the area of the lens with the most resolving power", yes but still not enough for the pixel size of APSC sensors. It doesn’t mean you’ll have a bad pictures, but you could get better result with a lens mad for APSC.
