With both the EOS R and Nikon Z featuring new mounts, there is a very big need for high-quality adapters so you can use existing glass that you already own.

The new lightweight Nikon FTZ lens adapter provides compatibility for about 360 existing F-mount lenses from AI type onwards.

The point is that people can’t slowly move to a new system. If you are stuck with one mount it means you either gotta invest in the one system and lose a bunch of money when you sell everything to move over to full frame or you can’t buy any glass until you have the money to buy the full frame with the new glass. I never said you need full frame to be a pro.

Absolutely true – the camera and lens are just tools in someone’s hands. We can all pick up a pencil but we can’t all draw beautifully. But if a FF mirrorless has significantly better quality in the finished product and is comparable/cheaper in price to current DSLR FF cameras, of course people will be interested.

this is completely false. In addition to locking out user’s upgrade path, there are plenty of reasons to use a full frame sensor on a cropped body. You’re effectively using the best part of the lens, so any image and falloff issues around the edges aren’t a problem. You’re also using the area of the lens with the most resolving power: just look at most MTF charts. It is no wonder that some of the most popular lens choices for the 7D and D500 are precisely full frame glass.

Holding out for Fuji because they now have two awesome mirrorless cameras (X-H1, X-T2) and by far have the best lens lineup in the business for Super35. Hoping for a mini cinema camera with XLRs and internal NDs soon.

Thanks for the link. Based on this information it doesn’t really seem like that would be the main driving force for a new lens mount, but since Nikon has so many different AF variations of their F-mount, it makes sense to me that they would feel the need for a new design going forward. At some point you have to just move on. Canon users went through this when they went from FD to EF mount.

MTF Services has just announced the arrival of a complete range of the world’s first lens adapters for Nikon’s new full-frame mirrorless camera system, the Z-Series.​ There are 4 Nikon Z-Mount adapters available.

However, it’s not necessarily a full-frame sensor, which harkens back to the size of a frame of 35mm film. It could be a new, larger-size Four Thirds sensor that would encompass full-frame so you could use those lenses with an adapter using some kind of multiaspect mode.

But don’t worry 10 lenses are scheduled to be released by 2020. I would also suspect that Sigma will probably make their ART series lenses available in L mount at some stage in the future.
