Maybe. Think about when they switched from FD to EOS, and then when IS was introduced, and then when digital sensors required higher resolving power (if you believe in that sort of thing). There are some lenses that will for sure hold (big white ones), but the other thing to consider, and why the values will hold for a while, is how long it would take for them to release all the equivalents in a new mount.

And if you’re a Canon or Nikon owner, will you stay loyal if they release a mirrorless system that requires an adaptor to use legacy lenses, or will you jump to brands like Sony, or Fujifilm?

At this point, the differences between cameras isn’t the resulting shot but how easily a particular camera helps the photographer *get* the shot, how comfortable the camera is to the photographer, how reliable the camera is, etc… Not unlike a mechanic’s tools.

As for lenses, they’re probably terrific, and Canon claims they’re better than their EF-mount equivalents. Canon’s aggressively pursuing the fast-aperture segment, unlike Nikon and Sony did at launch. But there’s no affordable entry point to match this body, at least in the near term. Clearly they were designed with a subsequent higher-end model, or deeper-pocketed filmmaker, in mind. 

As Crowd Sorcerer says, the whole photographic and video industry is rushing to full frame. Like Lemmings. Because the manufacturers have got to make you constantly want to buy new cameras and lenses mainly to stay in business. Not because it’s better, or an improvement. I walked around CineGear this year and observed the same thing, everyone is all hyped about FF. If you take everyone to mean the manufacturers. But as far as users, meh, gear heads are excited but I don’t see a mass stampede in Television production, for instance, to switch from S35 to FF.

There are many reasons why I prefer a fully articulating screen and none of them have anything to do with me vlogging or shooting myself.
